WSQ Patient Empowerment on Self-care (Level 2)

MOH and the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) has embarked on a job redesign initiative to attract, develop, and retain support care staff for the Community Care sector. These support care staff are not trained licensed healthcare professionals and hence will require appropriate training to induct them into the sector. They can also look forward to employment opportunities in the Community Care sector with excellent opportunities for career advancement.

What You'll Learn

• Understand the importance of patient-centred practice and its impact on patient advocacy
• Identify communication barriers and apply effective communication skills when building rapport and trust with patients and caregivers
• Identify the areas of difficulties which patients have in performing activities of daily living with activity analysis and explain the level of assistance required to support patients in performing self-care activities more independently
• Address the area of difficulty in performing self-care by guiding patients and caregivers the correct techniques in self-care and the use of medical devices, and provide reinforcements for improvement where necessary
• Identify the appropriate communication styles and provide information to stakeholders on patients' progress in the self-care management plans accordingly

Minimum Entry Requirement

• No prior work experience is required
• Obtained at least a C6 pass at GCE 'N' level in any 1 subject; OR
• WPL 4 (Reading Listening, Speaking) AND WPL 3 (Writing)
