a. Understand child sexual development milestones and child sexual abuse
b. Be aware of the guidelines and deploy appropriate strategies to handle suspected cases of child sexual abuse
c. Know the key body safety messages and how they can be taught to young children
d. Be aware of how to handle incidents of peer-on-peer touching
What You'll Learn
Body safety is an important topic to share and discuss with young children. However, adults are often unsure how to begin such a conversation and at a loss if a child encounters a situation of unwanted touch. Because of their daily contact with young children, pre-school educators are well-positioned to teach and reinforce body safety knowledge and skills amongst pre-schoolers. This workshop will allow lecturers to understand more about child sexual abuse prevention in order to relay key messages to trainee teachers. This knowledge will guide trainee teachers to pass on body safety skills during their interactions with young children.
