Theories in Medical Sociology and Sociology of Health

This course explores key theories in medical sociology and health sociology, such as social epidemiology, fundamental cause theory, gender theory, and stress process theory. It also examines socio-behavioral aspects like the Health Belief Model, labeling theory, and Traditional, Complementary, and Alternative Medicine (TCAM), focusing on Singapore and Asia's sociocultural contexts. Learners will analyze social patterns, health behaviors, and outcomes while assessing theoretical applications in research. The course aims to provide learners with theoretical tools to understand health-society dynamics and enhance their research skills in medical and health sociology.
