This course aims to inform participants with knowledge (aetiology, symptomology, evidenced based treatment, course of the illness, treatment challenges, etc.) and psycho-social management of persons with Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and Hoarding Disorder .
The critical role in family work and a systemic frame will be emphasized in their management, given the potentially debilitating impact on their families.
The psycho-social management of these conditions will be discussed through case studies.

Participants will be able to:
- Describe the aetiology, symptomology and evidence-based treatment approaches to Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and Hoarding Disorder
- Appreciate the effects of these illness on individuals and their families.
- OCD
a. Describe the role of Exposure Response Therapy, a first-line treatment protocol for OCD
b. Appreciate the critical role of family work in managing family accommodation with persons with OCD
c. Apply a step-by-step strategy to support families who are trapped in the cyclical process of family accommodation.
- Hoarding Disorder
a. Appreciate the relationship between squalor, hoarding behaviour, hoarding in OCD, and Hoarding Disorder .
b. Describe the phenomenology persons with Hoarding Disorder
c. Apply psycho-social strategies (including a step-by-step guide to decluttering) in the management of clients with Hoarding Disorders.
Minimum Entry Requirement
Degree, have at least 3 years of experience working with clients with common mental health conditions;
Preferably, have attended basic mental health education at the undergraduate level, mental health first aid training, or the Foundational Module in Mental Health with NUS SWK Department, etc.
