On completion of this module, learners will be able to:
- Describe the anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system.
- Discuss the anatomical and physiological changes in pregnancy.
- Deliver a baby with normal birth presentation.
- Identify and manage common emergencies related to pregnancy.
- Identify and manage common neonatal problems in pre-hospital environment.
Deliver partum, postpartum and neonatal care in a systematic way according to established local protocols.
What You'll Learn
This module is part of the Modular Certificate in Prehospital Management of Special Populations.
This module provides an opportunity for the learners to develop skills in the assessment and management of obstetric patients in the pre-hospital environment. The learners also acquire the skillset to take care of the mother and newborn baby, at the scene and during transportation to the hospital. Case scenarios, using local protocols based on obstetric emergencies in pre-hospital settings will be presented and utilized.
Training hours: 60hrs
Minimum Entry Requirement
The admission requirement is any NITEC certificate or a minimum 3 "O" level passes (with a minimum of D7 for English);
- and Higher NITEC in Paramedic & Emergency Care or EMS certification from SMTI:
- with minimum of 4 years of relevant working experience.
Applicants who meet the entry requirements will be given advanced standing with exemption to Modular Certificate 1 and 2 of the programme
Other applicants, with equivalent qualifications and relevant experience, may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
