The Post-Diploma Certificate in Principles and Science of Medical-Surgical Nursing course will offer the following modules:
(1) Applied Pathophysiology and Pharmacology in Medical-Surgical Nursing (60 hours)
(2) Health Assessment and Clinical Decision-Making (45 hours)
(3) Advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing for Cardiovascular Disorders (60 hours)
(4) Advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing for Respiratory and Neurological Disorders (60 hours)
Total Training hours: 225
What You'll Learn
At the completion of the PDC, learners will be able to:
(1) Explain the disease process of complex multisystem disease states of clients in medical-surgical settings in relation to general and systemic pathological concepts;
(2) Explain pharmacological management of clients with complex health problems with reference to key concepts of pharmacology;
(3) Perform physical assessment for appropriate clinical decisions and interventions using a systematic, comprehensive and focused approach;
(4) Plan for care of client with complex cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological dysfunctions in medical-surgical settings using a systematic, comprehensive and focused approach;
(5) Demonstrate competency in the requisite skills for complex problems and surgeries associated with the disorders of the cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological systems in medical-surgical settings according to evidence-based clinical guidelines; and
(6) Apply concepts of care in clients with complex medical-surgical conditions and families with reference to appropriate psychosocial concepts and models.
Minimum Entry Requirement
- Diploma in Nursing from a local Polytechnic or an equivalent qualification;
- Singapore Nursing Board registration;
- 2 years post registration experience with a minimum of 1 year in the discipline of study.
