Occupational Safety (in MC in Chemical Plant Safety & Health in Part-Time Diploma in Applied Science (Chemical Technology))

This subject aims to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills to:

● Understand the important technical fundamentals of occupational safety in industries.

● Be aware of safety hazards at workplace and the necessary precaution to be taken to safeguard oneself from such hazards.

What You'll Learn

This subject covers the basic ideas of occupational safety which provides understanding of the various dangers that exist in the workplace and methods of protection. Topics taught include the machinery and electrical safety, hazards of fires and explosions, housekeeping, material handling, labeling, personal protective equipment, etc. The subject includes the latest development in the safety industry such as the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), a UN developed system for chemical classification and hazard communication through harmonized provision for standardized labels and safety data sheet.

Minimum Entry Requirement

O' Levels at least 3 'O' Level passes and 1 year of relevant working experience OR

Higher Nitec GPA ≥ 2.0 OR GPA ≥ 1.5 and 1 year of relevant working experience OR

Nitec GPA ≥ 3.5 OR GPA ≥ 3.0 and 1 year of relevant working experience OR

Higher Nitec in Technology/Services GPA ≥ 2.0 and 1 year of relevant working experience OR

Nitec in Technology/Services GPA ≥ 3.5 and 1 year of relevant working experience OR

WSQ Qualification Relevant WSQ Qualification with 1 year of relevant working experience and WSQ Workplace Literacy Statement of Attainment (SOA)(Level 6) AND Workplace Numeracy Statement of Attainment (SOA)(Level 6)

Without relevant academic qualifications at least 2 years of relevant working experience
