Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), established in 2007 in Effurun, Warri, Delta State, stands as Nigeria’s first specialized petroleum university. It operates a rigorous semester-based, full-time academic system and is organized around faculties such as Engineering, Science, Environmental Sciences, and Management Sciences. Each faculty houses departments tailored to the petroleum and energy value chain—Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Marine Geology, and Environmental Management, among others. Prospective students gain admission primarily through JAMB/UTME, with regular entry requirements that include credit in five GCE O-Level or equivalent subjects (including Mathematics, English, Chemistry, and Physics) at not more than two sittings. Direct Entry candidates typically hold a minimum of an upper credit in relevant National Diploma (ND) or its equivalent. The university places strong emphasis on practical training, with laboratory work, field trips to industry facilities, and internship placements forming an integral part of many degree programmes.
