Course Goal
To utilise diagnostic ultrasound to answer the urgent clinical question: "Is there free fluid in the chest/abdomen or a pneumothorax?" in the emergency environment
Course expected outcomes
- Consolidate the student's existing skills to accurately and safely operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment to acquire images of Pericardium (subxiphoid view), Right Upper Quadrant (RUQ), Left Upper Quadrant (LUQ), pelvis and lung (windows for pneumothorax and pleural effusion)
- To interpret the complexity of anatomy and pathologies encountered when incorporating Point of Care UltraSound (PoCUS) into an urgent patient management pathway in suspicion of free fluid or free air in chest/abdomen
- Become a safe, experienced PoCUS practitioner

This course teaches learners to acquire and interpret ultrasound images to identify and assess for free fluid or free air in the chest and abdomen.
