This unit covers competencies required for relating cultural diversity in Singapore to social practice, explaining cultural competence and development of worldview, relating the worldview of the major ethnic groups to its impact on social service practice in Singapore as well as applying cross cultural communication skills in working with clients from different cultural backgrounds.
Minimum Entry Requirement
- Have a basic knowledge of the overview of the social service
- Be able to apply communication techniques suited to working with a range of clients
- Know the general practices of Workplace Safety and Health (WSH)
- Have general problem-solving and decision making skills
- Have basic language / dialects skills relevant to clients' target group
- Understand the principles and procedures for respecting confidentiality and privacy according to the organisation and the clients
- Understand the principles and procedures for gaining informed consent from clients
- Be able to listen, speak, read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills Workforce Skills Qualifications (ES WSQ) Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 5
- Be able to use numeracy skills at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills Workforce Skills Qualifications (ES WSQ) Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 5
- Have basic Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills
