The Post-Diploma Certificate in Principles and Science of Midwifery will offer the following modules:

• Applied pathophysiology and Pharmacology in Midwifery (60 hours)
• Health Assessment and Clinical Decision Making (45 hours)
• Fundamentals of Midwifery (60 hours)
• Labour & Puerperium: Care of the Women & Newborn (60 hours)

What You'll Learn

At the completion of the PDC, learners will be able to:

• Explain the physiology and pathophysiology of complex multisystem changes of women, foetuses and newborns in relation to preconception, pregnancy and delivery processes;
• Explain pharmacological management of clients in midwifery settings with reference to key concepts of pharmacology;
• Perform physical assessment for appropriate clinical decisions and interventions using a systematic, comprehensive and focused approach;
• Plan for care of women, foetuses, newborns and families with common self-care and health needs in midwifery setting using a systematic, comprehensive and focused approach;
• Demonstrate competency in the requisite skills caring for women, foetuses and newborns with common self-care and health needs associated with preconception, pregnancy and delivery in midwifery settings according to evidence-based clinical guidelines; and
• Apply concepts of care for women and families in midwifery settings with reference to appropriate psychosocial concepts and models.

Minimum Entry Requirement

• Diploma in Nursing from a local Polytechnic or an equivalent qualification;
• Singapore Nursing Board registration;
• 2 years post registration experience with a minimum of 1 year in the discipline of study.
