This course is for low wage workers (LWWs) in the PWM"“Waste Management (Materials Recovery) sector with the following PWM job roles:
- Sorter
- Senior Sorter
- Machine Operator
- Team Lead
- Supervisor
What You'll Learn
Course Learning Outcomes:
LO1. Identify types of waste for recycling and disposal
LO2. Identify types of waste collection vehicle
LO3. Identify Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for management of different types of waste
LO4. Describe parts of relevant laws and regulations
LO5. Describe organisational procedures for waste sorting
LO6. Identify types of abnormalities that may be encountered during waste sorting
LO7. Perform waste sorting in accordance with organisational procedures and guidelines
LO8. Transfer sorted waste to storage area or for compaction
LO9. Report to appropriate person if work cannot be carried out
LO10. Replenish consumables used to prepare for the next waste sorting process
LO11. Maintain tools, equipment and PPE in accordance to organisation
guidelines
Minimum Entry Requirement
Desired entry requirement: Physically fit; attentive; resilient; team player; able to read and write English (at a level equivalent to WPLN Level 2); possess knowledge, skills, experience essential to and gained from published PWM job roles. Assumed attitude: Safety-oriented; desire to perform well; receptive to exposure to unpleasant sights and smells, dangerous and/or toxic substances; handling of dangerous materials; ready to assume leadership, coaching, mentoring and/or supervisory job functions.
