Profile
The healthcare industry is one of the fastest-growing service industries around the world. In Singapore, the healthcare market grew to $29.8 billion in 2020, a 9% rise from the previous year and is expected to double by 2029 (The Straits Times, 2020). The factors that lead to the growth are an ageing population, increasing cases of chronic health conditions and increasing consumerism. By 2030, ageing population will rise to one in four or 25 per cent of Singaporeans, just like Japan and some European countries (The Straits Times, 2022). As a result, nurses are in high demand across the board in the healthcare industry.
What You'll Learn
This course aims to equip Healthcare Assistant (HA) and Patient Service Associate (PSA) with knowledge and skills in performing record respiration and oxygen saturation rate for patients.
By undergoing this programme, learner will gain fundamental knowledge on structure and functions of the respiratory system of the human body.
Learner will also pick up the necessary knowledge on the importance of adhering to the organisation's infection control policies/practices and how to apply them when performing record respiration and oxygen saturation rate for patients.
In addition to this, the consequences and implications will also be emphasized to the learners if they did not follow infection control policies/practices when performing respiration and oxygen saturation rate monitoring for patients.
This course will also impart learners on conducting evaluation of respiration rate and oxygen saturation for patients after the trainer delivery with necessary knowledge such as measurement of respiration rate, influencing factors and common respiration range and saturation.
Covering the type of devices needed, the indications and contraindication for administration of oxygen therapy will enable learners to performing administration of oxygen on patients.
Lastly, learners will take away with them on how to record observation on patients conditions based on organisational policies and procedures required and when to report and escalate such conditions to the relevant parties.
